The events of the last ten days show the need for God’s people to pray earnestly for peace in this world. While you may hear many kinds of prayers from many different perspectives, our aim is to follow God’s Word in all things – especially when we come before Him in prayer.
Consider the following biblical principles as you call for God’s peace in this world:
- Pray for life to be peaceful and quiet… (I Timothy 2:2)
- Pray that swords will be beaten into plowshares… (Isaiah 2:4)
- Pray that the peacemakers will prevail… (Matthew 5:9, James 3:18)
- Pray for world leaders and all of those in authority… (I Timothy 2:1-2)
- Pray that the cause of the poor and needy will be defended… (Psalm 72:4)
- Pray that justice and righteousness will flow in every nation… (Amos 5:24)
- Pray that the wicked will have no voice in halls of power… (Proverbs 25:5)
- Pray that walls of hostility will be broken down… (Ephesians 2:14, Galatians 3:28)
- Pray for those fleeing violence and seeking refuge… (Psalm 18:16-19)
- Pray that pride will be abandoned before it leads to further destruction… (Proverbs 16:18)
- Pray that wisdom and understanding carry the day… (Deuteronomy 1:13, I Kings 3:9)
- Pray for children living under the threat of war… (Luke 18:16)
- Pray for leaders to seek God’s favor… (Psalm 85)
- Pray that hearts will be transformed by the gospel of Jesus… (I Timothy 2:1-4)
Let’s continue to be a people who seek God’s face at every turn in world history. All things are possible with our God. It is in His mighty power that we find our security. As David once sang, Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. (Psalm 20:7, ESV)
